smush, the first born child of emily and atley king, grew up under the tender care of young lovers yearning for a place to reflect on the world what we found within eachother. with the help of countless friends, records, and inspirations, we have created a space where people feel understood, accepted and welcomed for who they are. themes of love, uncertainty, and the growing pains of being a young woman arrive alongside music which addresses the unresolved questions of adolescence. by emphasizing contrasting music styles and settings, smush expands on the most important music of the 90s and onwards. with an eclectic audience of both the youth of then and now, the music finds a way to speak to a part of our human condition which remains unhealed. understanding a pain felt by so many, smush offers an open invitation to anyone looking for a shoulder to cry on, a friend to the lonely, or a noise to fill up the silence
our first full length album, if you were here i’d be home now, is drenched in a thick fuzz with catchy hooks and melodies overlayed. lyrically, we explore the grief of moving on, growing up, and finding new love. written over 3 years with some riffs even predating our first meeting in 2020, we poured everything we had into this collection of songs from the moment we started writing together. recorded and mixed by jordan koop at the noise floor and mastered by brock mcfarlane at cps mastering, this music couldn’t have been in better hands. a thousand thank you's are owed to jay christie, for playing drums for our first live shows, two tours, all over the whole record, up until our last shows in vancouver.
